OBITUARY | Sister Virginia Flowers, CPPS

A funeral Mass for Sister Virginia “Ginny” Flowers, CPPS, was celebrated Aug. 18. Sister Ginny died Aug. 9. She was 59 years old.

Ginny Flowers was born in St. Louis on Oct. 7, 1962, the fourth of 12 children of Lambert and Donna (Winzen) Flowers. Approximately two years after graduation from high school, Ginny began an affiliate relationship with the Sisters of the Most Precious Blood. She entered the novitiate in 1991 and professed first vows on Sept. 6, 1992. Sister Ginny received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and a master’s degree in education from Fontbonne University.

In St. Louis, Sister Ginny taught at the Missouri School for the Blind and Immacolata School. She served as a caregiver assistant at Martha’s Hands and as a paraprofessional at Roger’s School and Trautwein Elementary School. She served her own sisters as the Community Life Coordinator for St. Joseph Retirement Center. Since 2018, she had been in the ministry of prayer and presence, first at The Sarah Community and then at Our Mother of Good Counsel.

Sister Ginny’s hobbies included reading, listening to music and working with crafts. She shared her love of crafts with her students and with the residents of The Sarah Community and Our Mother of Good Counsel.

Sister Ginny was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her siblings and their spouses: Lambert (Lura) Flowers Jr., Tom Flowers, Terri (Thom) Barr, Jim (Claire) Flowers, Bob (Lisa) Flowers, Dave (Linda) Flowers, Lisa (Tom) Baumann, Colleen (Bill) Winterbauer, Mary Jo (Jon) Knyff, Jason (Amy) Flowers, and Kevin Flowers.
