OBITUARY | Sister Dorothy Ann Katke, CPPS

A private funeral Mass for Sister Dorothy Ann Katke was to have been celebrated Feb. 20 at Assumption Church in O’Fallon. Sister Dorothy Ann, a former educator and minister to the elderly, died Feb. 1 at the age of 76.

Born on July 22, 1944, and baptized Cheryl Ann at the Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in St. Louis, she was the third of five children of George and Dorothy (Schulz) Katke. She entered the Sisters of the Most Precious Blood novitiate in 1961 and professed first vows on Aug. 10, 1963.

Sister Dorothy Ann completed a bachelor’s degree in education at Fontbonne College. She spent 16 years teaching at the kindergarten and elementary school levels. She taught at St. George, Holy Innocents, and Holy Family schools in St. Louis and at St. Paul in Fenton.

In 1979, Sister Dorothy Ann felt that God was calling her to a new ministry. She began full-time ministry to the elderly of St. Pius Parish in St. Louis, and continued there for the next 35 years.

Sister Dorothy Ann is survived by her brother, George, and her sisters Mary Brautigam and Jan Grammer. Burial was to have taken place in the convent cemetery.
