Go to bat

Catholic Charities of St. Louis is seeking sponsors for Go to Bat for Kids, a game-day outing for children who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game. Catholic Charities is hosting six games this year. Sponsoring a child is just $26. Visit www.ccstl.org.

Corpus Christi processions

Many parishes in the Archdiocese of St. Louis will host Corpus Christi processions the weekend of June 22-23. The feast of Corpus Christi, June 23, celebrates the mystery of the Eucharist. There has been a resurgence in Corpus Christ processions in recent years. Here are several that will take place in the archdiocese. Archbishop Robert J. Carlson will lead a Corpus Christi procession at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis, Lindell Boulevard and Newstead Avenue in the Central West End, after the 5 p.m. Mass on Sunday, June 23.

The North County Deanery will host a Corpus Christ procession 7 p.m. Sunday, June 23. The procession will begin at Sacred Heart Church, 751 N. Jefferson St. in Florissant and end at the Old St. Ferdinand Shrine. The Knights of Columbus will host a BBQ at the shrine afterward. Sts. Joachim and Ann, 4112 McClay Road in St. Charles, will host a procession Saturday, June 22, after the 5 p.m. Mass. There will be limited seating for those unable to participate in the procession. An ice cream social will be held afterward.

St. John the Baptist Gildehaus, 5567 Gildehaus Road in Villa Ridge, will host a procession at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 23. There will be cannons fired at each of the stops along the procession. A reception will be held afterward.

Holy Infant, 627 Dennison Drive in Ballwin, will hold a procession after the 4 p.m. Mass Saturday, June 22. The Knights of Columbus will host a BBQ and ice cream social afterward.

St. Anthony of Padua, 3140 Meramec St. in St. Louis, will host a procession after the 9 a.m. Mass Sunday, June 23.

St. Ambrose, 5130 Wilson Ave. in the Hill neighborhood of St. Louis, will host a procession Sunday, June 23, after the 11 a.m. Mass.

German Games

The annual St. John the Baptist German Games will take place Saturday, June 22, at the parish, 5567 Gildehaus Road in Villa Ridge. The games will begin after the 8 a.m. Mass. Teams of five men (21+) will compete in a series of individual and team events, including the tire flip, arm wrestling, keg roll, root beer stein race and tug of war. A polka dance for adults 21 and older will be held Friday, June 21, from 7-10 p.m. Admission for the dance is $5 per person, and food and drink will be available for purchase. St. Josemaria Escriva Mass

A Mass to celebrate the feast of St. Josemaria Escriva, founder of Opus Dei, will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, at St. Gerard Majella Church, 1969 Dougherty Ferry Road in Kirkwood. Confessions will be heard beginning at 10:30 a.m. A reception will follow Mass. This year, Opus Dei is celebrating the beatification of Guadalupe Ortiz de Landázuri. The native of Madrid, Spain, is the first woman and the first lay person of Opus Dei to be beatified. The beatification took place May 18 in Madrid.

Chesterton Education Conference

The St. Louis Chesterton Society will host host “Education in a Miseducated World,” an education conference on Saturday, June 22, at St. Anselm Church in Creve Coeur. The conference will explore the purpose of Christian education. Dale Ahlquist, world renowned Chesterton scholar and speaker and president of the Society of G.K. Chesterton, will present the keynote address, “Truth, Beauty and Goodness.” Local Catholic actor Kevin O’Brien (Upstage Productions and Theater of the Word, Inc.), will speak on “Shakespeare and the Internet.” Other conference speakers include Kenneth Colston, Andrew Daub, Father Edward Voltz, and Maureen Wittmann.

Gilbert Keith Chesterton, a convert himself, inspired others to convert to Christianity, including Christian author, C.S. Lewis.

Cost for the conference is $35 for adults, $15 for students and $60 maximum per family in advance. Limited babysitting and box lunches will be available with pre-registration. Register at www.stlcec.com.

Living Rosary

Our Lady of Guadalupe for Life will host another Living Rosary for Life at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 23, at Assumption Church, 4725 Mattis Road in south St. Louis County. The group will pray the Rosary and honor the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Our Lady of Guadalupe for Life is a nonprofit group that sponsors pro-life billboards along St. Louis area highways.

Concert and retreat

Catholic composers and musicians Davis Haas and Lori True will perform “God Will Delight,” a compilation of their congregational songs at a concert at 7 p.m. Friday, June 28, at Mercy Conference and Retreat Center, 2039 North Geyer Road. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance and $35 at the door.

Haas and True also will lead a guided retreat, “Show by Your Life, A Call to Holiness,” at Mercy Conference and Retreat Center from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 29. Inspired by Pope Francis and his call to Holiness, Haas and True will lead participants in reflection and prayer, discerning who each person is truly meant to be in the eyes of God. Registration is $60, which includes lunch.
