St. Engelbert reunion
Forty-one alumni from the former St. Engelbert School visited St. Louis Catholic Academy for a class reunion Sept. 12. Members from the Classes of 1956-62 attended an all-school Mass, celebrated by Father Steve Giljum, participated in a school tour and heard presentations from student ambassadors; Caryn McFerren, dean of students; and the Today and Tomorrow Educational Foundation.
Mass for people with special needs
Sacred Heart Church, 17 Ann Ave. in Valley Park, is seeking participants for a Special Needs Mass at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2. Individuals with special needs who wish to participate in the Mass as a lector, usher, greeter, petition reader or other function should contact Kathy Houston at redstart1@sbcglobal.net or call (636) 861-3469. All are welcome to join Sacred Heart Parish in celebrating Mass with individuals and families with special needs. A luncheon sponsored by the Sacred Heart Pro-Life Committee will take place afterward in the church hall. Holy Hour for vocations
A Holy Hour for priestly and religious vocations will take place from 7-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at the Monastery of St. Clare, 200 Marycrest Drive in south St. Louis County. The monastery is located off Telegraph Road, next to the Goddard School.
Young parent speaker series
A Young Parent Speaker Series will take place this fall at St. Peter Parish in Kirkwood. Susan Stuhlsatz-Reese will speak on Tuesday, Oct. 11, about how the integration of Montessori methodology and faith fosters holistic child development. Becca and Scott McCullough and Terry Ostlund will speak on Tuesday, Nov. 8, about discovering a family and home environment that best supports a child’s exploration and identity. Both talks will take place from 6:30-7:45 p.m. in the school cafeteria. The series is sponsored by St. Peter Parish Young Parents and the Faith Alive in the Home program. Day of reflection
The National Black Catholic Congress implementation team will host a day of reflection, “Writing the Vision: A Prophetic Call to Thrive,” from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis’ Boland Hall, 4430 Maryland Ave. in Midtown St. Louis. Gabriel’s Retreat Ministries is offering Elizabeth’s Support meetings and classes to provide emotional, spiritual, psychological and educational support for women during and after pregnancy.
