Vatican’s highest court rejects final All Things New appeals
St. Barnabas, St. Catherine of Alexandria and St. Lawrence had appealed initial Vatican decisions
The Vatican’s Apostolic Signatura has responded to three parishes that appealed their suppression as part of the All Things New pastoral planning process. The Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura rejected the appeals from St. Barnabas in O’Fallon, St. Catherine of Alexandria in Coffman and St. Lawrence in Lawrenceton.
The Vatican’s Dicastery for the Clergy had previously upheld Archbishop Mitchell T. Rozanski’s 2023 decrees suppressing the parishes. Parishioners then appealed the dicastery’s decision to the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, the court of final appeal for ecclesiastical matters.
St. Barnabas Parish was subsumed into Assumption Parish in O’Fallon; St. Catherine of Alexandria was subsumed into St. Joseph in Farmington; and St. Lawrence in Lawrenceton was subsumed into St. Agnes in Bloomsdale.
This decision from the Apostolic Signatura is the final ruling on appeals that stemmed from the All Things New restructuring.
