‘Saints under construction’ return to school

Students in the Archdiocese of St. Louis have returned to classrooms for a new year of learning.
At St. Alphonsus in Millwood, students gathered outside on the first day of school to say a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance before heading into church for Mass.
In the southern stretch of the archdiocese in Bloomsdale, Father Ryan Weber and his 2-year-old Aussiedoodle, Patrick, greeted St. Agnes School students during morning drop off on day one of the school year.
In the city of St. Louis, St. Gabriel the Archangel student Clara Leipholtz sported an “I rocked my 1st day of kindergarten!” hat she colored.
St. Gabriel the Archangel principal Tonya McEnery said the school’s theme for the year is “Saints Under Construction,” which is a nod to a learning center construction project and “our role as creating saints in all of us.”
“Our emphasis is on student leadership, and so we’re looking to give our students lots of opportunities to learn those skills so they can go out in the world and become the saints and leaders that they’re called to be,” McEnery said.
Here are a few first-day-of-school moments.
