OBITUARY | Father James Winzerling
A funeral Mass will be celebrated for Father James Winzerling at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 1115 S. Florissant Road in Ferguson. Father Winzerling died June 1 at Regina Cleri in St. Louis. He was 85 years old.
Born in St. Louis on Aug. 26, 1935, to Robert and Mary Agnes (Ragan) Winzerling, he was ordained to the priesthood on March 18, 1961, at St. Louis Cathedral by Cardinal Joseph Ritter.
Father Winzerling served as assistant pastor of Corpus Christi Parish in Jennings (1961-66), associate pastor of St. Gregory in St. Ann (1966-68), associate pastor of St Philip Neri in St. Louis (1968-72), and associate pastor of St. Patrick in University City (1972). He took a leave of absence from 1972-1976.
He also was an associate pastor at Holy Trinity in St. Louis (1976-78), associate pastor at St. Bernadette in Lemay (1978), and part-time associate pastor, again at Holy Trinity (1978-80).
In 1980, he was named chaplain at Christian Northwest and Northeast hospitals, and was granted retirement in 2000. In 2002, he served as temporary administrator of Sacred Heart Parish in Crystal City.
