A funeral Mass for Deacon Fielding Harrison was celebrated May 26 at St. Joseph Church in Josephville. Deacon Harrison died May 21. He was 90 years old.
Deacon Harrison was married to his wife, Sue Ferrise Harrison, for 63 years. He was the father of Michael Harrison, Judy Harrison, David Harrison and the late Andrea Harrison. Deacon Harrison was ordained to the permanent diaconate on June 8, 1991, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis by then-Archbishop John May. He was assigned to assist the pastor at St. Lawrence the Martyr in Bridgeton from 1991-2003 and then at St. Joseph in Josephville from 2003 until his retirement from service in 2007. Deacon Harrison served his parish by assisting at Mass, presiding at baptisms, funeral services and weddings, leading days of reflection and retreats, assisting with PSR classes, visiting nursing homes and making Communion calls to the homebound.
