DEAR FATHER | The Rosary sets before us the glorious light of heaven as we examine events in the life of Jesus
Why is the Rosary such a powerful prayer?

The Rosary has emerged as the most universal and accessible personal prayer for the faithful seeking to enter the mysteries of Jesus’ life. While praying each decade, we are invited to imagine certain moments of the life of Christ: His birth in a stable, His transfiguration on Mount Tabor, His death and resurrection. We contemplate these moments in the presence of Mary, who “treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart” (Luke 2:19). We go to the one who loved Jesus most perfectly and ask her to bring us into the greatest moments of our savior’s life.
In heaven, we will not only contemplate God’s divine nature but also the key events in history that led to our salvation. The Book of Revelation recounts the song of the saints in heaven: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches, glory and strength, honor and glory and blessing” (Revelation 5:12). The saints sing of what they see: the life of Jesus, “the Lamb who was slain.” They forever ponder and delight in those pivotal moments of His life in which He revealed the love of God and His plan for our salvation. It is quite reasonable to say that, in heaven, we will continuously contemplate the mysteries that we already contemplate here when we pray the Rosary.
The movements of evil — doubt, shame, fear of the future and anxiety for life — are all dispelled when we allow the mysteries of the Rosary to fill our consciousness like a fresh breeze from a world that does not know the stain of sin. The Rosary is powerful because it heals. It presents the saving mysteries of our past and sets before us the glorious light of heaven.
One who abides with the Lord deeply in the mysteries of salvation finds in Him a refuge and a shelter against the adversities of this world. When Jesus drives out the demon in Matthew 12:43-45, He warns that the most important thing is not merely ridding ourselves of evil, but filling ourselves with grace. When a light shines brightly, there is no room for darkness. When a mind is filled with the love of Christ, there is no room for evil. The Rosary is powerful not only in calling upon the names of Jesus and Mary to “keep evil at bay,” but even more so because we are filled with the living presence of His mysteries.
So pray the Rosary! Pray leisurely, contemplating the mysteries, and you will be filled with the power of Christ.
