Fontbonne to cut programs, faculty
Fontbonne University announced Nov. 30 that it will cut 21 academic programs and eliminate 19 faculty positions among other budget cuts as part of a “final retrenchment plan” for the private Catholic university, founded in 1923 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.
The cuts are estimated to save Fontbonne University more than $2 million for the 2025 fiscal year, according to a statement from the university. It was previously reported that Fontbonne was experiencing a $5.2 million shortfall. All impacted academic programs will continue at least through the spring 2024 semester. In some cases, faculty will be retained through December 2024 and some programs will continue to be offered to currently enrolled students beyond 2024. A full list of eliminated programs is available at www.fontbonne.edu/ final-retrenchment-plan- announcement/.
