Obituary | Sr. Patricia Keating, OP

A funeral Mass was celebrated for Sparkill Dominican Sister Patricia Keating May 2 at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel in Sparkill, N.Y.

Sister Patricia, 74, died April 27 at Siena Hall in Sparkill.

Born in Bronx, N.Y., Sister Patricia entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill in 1960 and received the name Sister Kevin Michael. She professed first vows in 1962 and final vows in 1967.

Sister Patricia received a bachelor’s degree in education from St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill in 1965 and a master’s degree in urban affairs from St. Louis University in 1978.

Sister Patricia taught in St. Louis at St. Mark (later DePorres) School from 1965-80 and Bishop Healy School from 1980-81. She taught and was principal at Holy Guardian Angels School in St. Louis from 1981-84. Sister Patricia also taught in Nanuet, N.Y. In 1984, she was elected to congregational leadership, serving as a member of the executive team, 1984-88, and then elected president, serving from 1988-96. She served as regional coordinator for Catholic Charities and vicar for religious in Charleston, S.C., and later as director of Neighborhood House there. Sister Patricia returned to the Dominican Convent in New York in 2016.

Survivors include a brother, Thomas Keating. Burial was in St. Agnes Cemetery.
