A funeral Mass for Sister Miriam Sitarz, OSF, was celebrated June 12 at the Lally Room on the Carberry Campus of Cardinal Ritter Senior Services in Shrewsbury. Sister Miriam died June 3 at Mary, Queen and Mother Center in St. Louis. A Franciscan Sister of Our Lady of Perpetual Help for 84 years, she was 100 years old.
Born in Chicago Heights, Ill., in 1917, she entered the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in 1930 and professed perpetual vows in 1938. She received a bachelor’s degree from the College of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill., and a master’s from Adams State University in Alamosa, Colo.
In the Archdiocese of St. Louis, Sister Miriam taught in St. Louis, DeSoto, Portage Des Sioux and Sullivan. She also taught in southwest Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Colorado, Ohio, Nebraska and West Virginia. She was principal in a number of her assignments, and as an accomplished musician, she served as organist wherever she served.
