A memorial Mass for Sister Mary William Sullivan was to be celebrated at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, in Marian Chapel at The Sarah Community in Bridgeton, with memory sharing at 4 p.m. Sister Mary William died July 23. She was 92 and was a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul for 73 years.
Born in 1925 and baptized Florence Ann, Sister Mary William was a 1943 graduate of Xavier High School in St. Louis, earned a bachelor’s in education from Fontbonne College in 1951 and earned a master’s in social work from The Catholic University of American in Washington, D.C., in 1955.
Sister Mary William served in Wisconsin, California, Illinois, Texas and the Archdiocese of St. Louis. In the archdiocese, she was a school social worker at Central Catholic Community School (1972-74), served as director of Guardian Angel Settlement Association (1974-81), served on the board of directors for DePaul Health Center in Bridgeton (1974-80) and was associate executive director of Catholic Charities in the Archdiocese of St. Louis (1981-83). In addition, she had a brief stint at the former Marillac Provincial House in the late 1980s, was a minister in fund development and vocation work at Marillac (1992-93), then served a ministry of prayer at The Sarah Community from February 2009 until her death.
She is survived by her brother, John F. Sullivan of St. Louis.
