A funeral Mass for Sister Marjorie (Maggie) Fisher, SCN, was celebrated Jan. 24 at St. Vincent Church in Nazareth, Ky.
Sister Maggie, 92, died at Nazareth Home in Louisville, Ky., Jan. 16. A native of St. Joseph, Mo., Sister Maggie made first vows as a Religious of the Sacred Heart in 1949 and transferred to the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in 1979.
The program director at the St. Louis Inter-Faith Committee on Latin America from 1987-94, she was known for her efforts for social justice, especially in countries such as Nicaragua and El Salvador.
Sister Maggie also served in social service in Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Raymondville, Texas; as director of justice and peace for the Diocese of Little Rock, Ark.; and as a teacher of English in Managua, Nicaragua. Sister Maggie served in the Apostolate of Prayer at Nazareth, Ky. since 2007.
Survivors include a sister, Rosemary Fisher of Miami, Fla. Burial was in Nazareth Cemetery in Nazareth.
