Obituary | Sr. Frances Therese Hansman, CPPS

A funeral Mass for Sister Frances Therese Hansman was celebrated July 8 at St. Joseph Chapel in O’Fallon. Sister Frances Therese died July 1 at Mount Carmel Senior Living in O’Fallon. She was 84 and was a Sister of the Most Precious Blood for 61 years.

Born Mary Ann Hansman in St. Louis, she entered the Sisters of the Most Precious Blood of O’Fallon in 1952. She made her first profession of wows and received the religious name of Sister Frances Therese in 1955 and final profession in 1958. She earned a bachelor’s degree in theology from St. Louis University and a master’s degree in religious education from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio.

In the Archdiocese of St. Louis, she taught at St. Agatha School and Bishop DuBourg High School in St. Louis, St. George in Affton, Assumption School and St. Mary’s College in O’Fallon, St. Patrick in Wentzville, Our Lady of Fatima in Florissant and All Saints in St. Peters. She also taught at Sacred Heart in Caruthersville, Mo.

She was director of religious education at St. Justin Martyr Parish from 1985 to 2002, served as adult faith formation director at Holy Redeemer in Webster Groves until retirement in 2009 and then volunteered at St. Monica Parish from 2009 to 2010. She served in a mission of prayer and presence at the St. Joseph Community in O’Fallon from 2013 until her death.

Sister Frances Therese is survived by a sister, Audrey Lauenstein.
