Obituary | Sr. Andrea Lacoste, DC

A funeral Mass for Sister Andrea Lacoste was celebrated Dec. 2 at the Seton Residence Chapel in Evansville, Ind. Sister Andrea, 93, died Nov. 29 at Seton Residence.

Born in New Orleans, Sister Andrea (baptized Loretto André) entered the Daughters of Charity in St. Louis in 1944. She earned a diploma as a registered nurse at St. Joseph School of Nursing in Chicago in 1947, a bachelor’s degree in nursing education from DePaul University in Chicago in 1951 and a master’s degree in adult and hospital education from Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz., in 1973.

Following initial formation, Sister Andrea served as operating room and emergency room supervisor at hospitals in Evansville, Ind., Montgomery, Ala., New Orleans, Waco, Texas, and in St. Joseph, Mo. Sister Andrea served in employee health at St. Vincent’s Psychiatric Hospital in St. Louis, 1969-73, and as education coordinator at DePaul Health Center in Bridgeton, 1973-75. She moved to Texas where she served as director of education at a medical center in Austin. From 1979-81, Sister Andrea served at the former Marillac Provincial House in St. Louis, working on a research project. She then served in many management analysis and operations roles at a hospital in Dallas. In 1998, she became a volunteer in the patient care department at the hospital. In November 2001, she retired to New Orleans before moving to the Eldon Residence in St. Louis, 2006-09, when she moved to Seton Residence in Evansville.

Sister Andrea served on many hospital boards of directors and health care committees, including as chair of the board at St. Paul Medical Center in Dallas.

Burial was at St. Joseph Cemetery in Evansville.
