Obituary | Sister Mary Carol Mautemps, D.C.

The funeral Mass for Sister Mary Carol Mautemps, D.C., was celebrated Jan. 26 at the Seton Residence Chapel in Evansville, Ind. Sister Mary Carol died Jan. 23 at Seton Residence. She was 92 years of age and enjoyed 74 years of vocation as a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul.

Born in New Orleans on May 21, 1925, Sister Mary Carol entered the Daughters of Charity in St. Louis in 1943. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education at Fontbonne College in 1953; a master’s in administration in 1975 at Loyola University in New Orleans; and gerontology certification in 1989 from Auburn University in Montgomery, Ala.

In the Archdiocese of St. Louis, Sister Mary Carol taught at St. Malachy (1944-45), St. Patrick School (1945-52) and St. Vincent High School in Perryville (1954-58). She also taught in California, Nevada, Alabama, Texas, Louisiana and Utah and served as a principal in Alabama through 1982.

Sister Mary Carol then ministered as a pastoral care associate at St. Vincent Hospital in Birmingham and was administrator of Seton Haven in Montgomery, Ala. Sister Mary Carol joined the Ministry of Prayer at Seton Residence in Evansville, Ind., in 2002 and served there until her death.
