OBITUARY | Sister Marie Montgomery, OSU
A funeral Mass for Sister Marie Montgomery, OSU, was celebrated Aug. 21 at Mount Saint Joseph in Maple Mount, Kentucky. Sister Marie, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died Aug. 18 at Mount Saint Joseph. She was 100 years old and in her 79th year of religious life.
The native of Saint Lawrence, Kentucky, was an educator for 63 years. She taught at schools in Missouri, including Seven Holy Founders School in Affton (1946-48) and St. Teresa School in Glennonville (1996-97). She also taught in many other schools in Kentucky and New Mexico.
She attended Mount Saint Joseph Junior College, Maple Mount (1942-50), and the College of St. Joseph, Albuquerque, New Mexico (1959-60). She earned a bachelor’s degree from Brescia College, Owensboro, in 1963 and also took classes at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and other colleges.
Sister Marie served as a parish minister in churches in Houck, Arizona (1992-93), and Farmington, New Mexico (1994-96).
After retiring to the motherhouse in 2007, she helped distribute mail to the sisters and was an information receptionist.
Survivors include the members of her religious community and nieces and nephews. Burial was in the convent cemetery.
