Sister Marianne Travers of the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill, New York, died Nov. 24 in the Dominican Convent’s Siena Hall in Sparkill. She was 101 years old.

Born in St. Louis and given the name Rosemary, she entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill in 1938 and received the name Sister Marianne. She professed her first vows in 1940 and final vows in 1945.

Sister Marianne received a a bachelor’s degree in history from Manhattan College in Bronx, New York, in 1948; a master’s degree in library science from Rosary College in River Forest, Illinois, in 1968; and a master’s degree in theology from Saint Louis University in 1977.

She taught at several schools in New York and was a teacher and librarian at Epiphany School in St. Louis from 1951-52 and 1955-75. She served as a librarian at Saint Louis University from 1975 to 2004.

On Aug. 20, 2019, Sister Marianne celebrated her 100th birthday with other sisters, including her high school classmate, Sister Marie Daugherty. Both graduated from St. Mark High School in St. Louis, Class of 1938, and traveled to New York to join the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill.

Burial was in St. Agnes Cemetery in Sparkill.
