OBITUARY | Sister Leo Ann Bub, CSJ
A funeral Mass for Sister Leo Ann Bub was celebrated Aug. 6 at Nazareth Living Center Chapel in St. Louis. Sister Leo Ann, 92, died July 31. She was a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet for 73 years and a longtime teacher and principal.
Sister Leo Ann was born in St. Louis on Feb. 16, 1927, to Leo and Ellen McNamee Bub. She had three sisters and two brothers, one of whom was her twin, Leo. The children attended St. Luke’s School. The girls attended St. Joseph’s Academy, and the boys went to Saint Louis University High School.
She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph on Sept. 15, 1945. She made her final profession on Aug. 15, 1951. Sister Leo Ann earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Fontbonne College in 1957 and a master’s degree in elementary education from Saint Louis University in 1967.
Sister Leo Ann was a teacher at Our Lady of the Presentation in Overland (1948-51), St. Roch in St. Louis (1951-57), Holy Rosary in St. Louis (1957-63), St. Viator in Chicago (1963-64) and Ste. Genevieve in Ste. Genevieve (1966-67).
In 1967, she became principal at St. Roch School, where she served for 24 years. She was well-known in the neighborhood and often was called to the Police Department to help when a child was in trouble.
After leaving education in 1991, she became a receptionist and secretary at Mary Queen and Mother Center with Cardinal Ritter Senior Services. She loved working with young mothers and children and touched many lives with her kindness to others.
In 2011, Sister Leo Ann came to Nazareth Living Center, where she lived a ministry of prayer and presence.
She is survived by a brother, Bill Bub of Ballwin. Sister Leo Ann donated her body to science.
