Obituary | Fr. Joseph Stenger, CSSR
A funeral Mass was to be celebrated for Redemptorist Father Joseph Henry Stenger Sept. 12 at St. Joseph Church in Imperial. Father Stenger, age 88, died Sept. 2 at St. Clement Health Care Center in Liguori.
Born in Glennonville, Missouri, he was ordained as a Redemptorist priest in 1957 and spent most of his religious life as a missionary in Brazil, from 1959 through 2004, where he was known as Father Pascoal Stenger.
The funeral Mass was celebrated by his nephew, Father Michael Murphy, pastor of St. Ferdinand Church in Florissant.
Survivors include three sisters. Patricia Stenger of Overland, Kansas, Clementine Lampe of Black, Missouri, and Clara Herzog of DeSoto. Burial was in Redemptorists Cemetery at Liguori.
