OBITUARY | Father Robert C. Liss
A funeral Mass for Father Robert C. Liss will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, at St. John Paul II Church, 4980 Heege Road in Affton. Father Liss died Sept. 5. He was 84 years old.
Born in St. Louis on March 2, 1937, he was the son of Charles and Margaret (Sporleder) Liss. Growing up, he attended St. Engelbert Parish. He was ordained in Rome on Dec. 19, 1962, by Archbishop Martin J. O’Connor.
In 1963, he was assigned as assistant pastor at St. Gabriel in St. Louis. He taught religion at Bishop DuBourg High School from 1967-68.
He was appointed associate pastor at St. Gregory in St. Ann (1972-78), part-time associate pastor at St. Norbert in Florissant (1978-81), and associate pastor, St. John the Apostle and Evangelist in St. Louis (1981-85).
In 1985, he was named pastor of St. Francis of Assisi in Luebbering. He was then named pastor of St. Lucy in Jennings and St. Casimir in Hathaway Manor in 1991. In 1992, he became pastor of St. Stephen in Richwoods, where he remained until his retirement in 2015 to Regina Cleri. He had been residing at Nazareth Living Center in south St. Louis County since November of 2020.
