OBITUARY | Father Martin Mulvihill

Fr. Martin Mulvihill

A funeral Mass for Father Martin Mulvihill was celebrated Oct. 8 at Sacred Heart Church in Florissant. Father Mulvihill died Oct. 3 at Mother of Good Counsel Home. He was 68.

He was born on July 27, 1956, in St. Louis to Thomas and Nancy (Werner) Mulvihill. He was baptized on Aug. 19, 1956, at Sacred Heart Church in Florissant. He attended St. Louis Preparatory Seminary-North, Cardinal Glennon College and Kenrick Seminary.

Father Mulvihill was ordained a priest on May 21, 1983, by Archbishop John L. May at the Cathedral of St. Louis. His first assignment was as associate pastor of Most Precious Blood Parish in Lemay.

He then served as associate pastor of St. Joseph in Manchester, St. Blaise in Maryland Heights, St. Pius X in Glasgow Village, Our Lady of the Presentation in Overland, St. Elizabeth of Hungary in Crestwood, St. Michael the Archangel in Shrewsbury, St. Martin de Porres in Hazelwood, St. Gerard Majella in Kirkwood and St. Joseph in Clayton.

In 2005, he was assigned residence at St. Robert Bellarmine in St. Charles. In 2006, he was granted a leave of absence for health reasons, residing at Sacred Heart in Crystal City.

In 2008, Father Mulvihill was assigned to be a part-time chaplain at St. Joseph’s Hill Infirmary-Price Memorial in Eureka, where he served until retirement in 2013. In 2013, he moved to Mother of Good Counsel Home.
