OBITUARY | Father Frederick A. Meyer

A funeral Mass for Father Frederick Meyer was celebrated Aug. 24 at St. Peter Church in St. Charles. Father Meyer, a longtime pastor at parishes in the archdiocese, died Aug. 14. He was 83 years old.

Born in St. Louis on July 21, 1939, to Frederick and Veronica (Koehler) Meyer, he attended St. Louis Preparatory Seminary, Cardinal Glennon College and Kenrick Seminary. Cardinal Joseph E. Ritter ordained him to the priesthood on April 3, 1965, at St. Louis Priory.

His first assignment was assistant pastor of St. John the Baptist Parish in St. Louis. After that, he was an associate pastor at Immaculate Conception in Arnold (1971-76), St. Mary in Bridgeton (1976-80), and Our Lady Queen of Peace in House Springs (1980-86).

In 1986, he was named pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Elsberry, where he served until 1994. He also was pastor of St. Robert Bellarmine (1994-2005) and St. Vincent in Dutzow (2005-06).

In 2006, he took a health-related leave of absence. The following year, he was appointed senior associate pastor at Mary Queen of Peace in Webster Groves. In 2009, he was named senior associate pastor of St. Peter Parish in St. Charles. He retired in 2014, maintaining residence at St. Peter. Father Meyer moved to Mother of Good Counsel Home in 2022.
