A funeral Mass for Deacon John Meere was celebrated Dec. 27 at Ste. Genevieve Church in Ste. Genevieve. Deacon Meere died Dec. 17 at age 86.
Deacon Meere was ordained on May 21, 2005, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis by then-Archbishop Raymond L. Burke. He was assigned and assisted the pastor at Ste. Genevieve Church, where he served as a deacon until he entered into retirement status in 2017. He served his parish by presiding at baptisms, funeral services and weddings. Additionally, Deacon Meere served his parish by leading RCIA classes, marriage preparation, visiting nursing homes and making Communion calls to the homebound. Deacon Meere also served on the parish liturgy committee.
Deacon Meere is survived by his wife, Eloisa, and children Teresa (Juan) Caba, Kathleen (Scott) Shelton and John Meere Jr.
