A funeral Mass for Deacon Harold Strauss was celebrated Jan. 25 at Immaculate Conception Church in Dardenne Prairie. Deacon Strauss died Jan. 18 at age 88.
He married Carol Lee Strauss and they had three children, Debbie Hann, Kevin and Gregory.
Deacon Strauss was ordained by then-Archbishop John May on Jan. 31, 1987, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis. He was assigned to assist the pastor at St. Sabina Parish in Florissant, where he served as a deacon until his retirement in 2012.
During his diaconate ministry, Deacon Strauss presided at baptisms, funeral services and weddings; led RCIA, marriage and baptism classes; and visited nursing homes and brought Communion to the homebound. He was also involved with the Daily Worldmissionaires.
