Southern Vicariate mission trip

The Southern Vicariate hosted its first mission trip, “Dwelling in Hope — Restoring Homes, Restoring Dignity” the weekend of May 30-31 in Washington County. Twenty volunteers from four parishes, St. Francis of Assisi in Oakville, St. Joseph in Farmington, St. Joachim in Old Mines and St. James in Potosi, helped renovate two homes that will soon serve as affordable transitional housing units for a total of six residents. The project was undertaken through a partnership with the Washington County Community Partnershp and East Missouri Action Agency, and the mission trip was supported by the Annual Catholic Appeal.


North County Corpus Christi procession

About 400 people participated in the annual North County Corpus Christi procession through the streets of Old Town Florissant on Sunday, June 7. The procession started after 5 p.m. Mass at the Old St. Ferdinand Shrine and stopped at three altars on the way to Sacred Heart Parish. The feast of Corpus Christi is celebrated each year two Sundays after Pentecost.


Festus Corpus Christi procession

Our Lady in Festus, Sacred Heart in Crystal City and Good Shepherd in Hillsboro hosted their first joint Corpus Christi procession on Sunday, June 7. About 175 people joined the procession from Sacred Heart Church to Our Lady Church, concluding with a barbecue in celebration of newly ordained permanent deacons Deacon Matthew Surdyke and Deacon Matthew Olinger. Father Zac Povis is pastor of all three parishes.


Immigrant accompaniment training

Immigrant and Refugee Ministry will host volunteer trainings for its Immigrant Accompaniment Program from 10-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, and 6-7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 27, at St. Pius V Church, 3310 S. Grand Ave. in St. Louis. The training will cover the importance of accompaniment and how to walk in solidarity with immigrant neighbors during times of fear and anxiety. Prison ministry discussion

All are welcome to join the Christ the King social justice committee for a discussion on accompanying incarcerated people in our archdiocese at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 24 at Christ the King Church, 7316 Balson Ave. in University City. The event will highlight Kairos Prison Ministry and other faith-based criminal justice volunteer opportunities. No RSVP is necessary. Youth choir auditions

Auditions for the St. Louis Archdiocesan Youth Choir will be held from 10 a.m.-noon on Thursday, June 19, and Thursday, July 9, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis (St. Cecilia Chapel). Singers entering grades 4-12 are invited. The youth choir provides music for liturgies in the archdiocese including Christmas, Divine Mercy Sunday, the Chrism Mass, ordination Mass and a handful of Saturday vigil Masses throughout the year.
