Apostles of the Sacred Heart make professions
Seven women with ties to the Archdiocese of St. Louis were among eight religious sisters professing vows for the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in ceremonies at Mount Sacred Heart, the community’s Provincial House in Hamden, Conn. On Aug. 3, Cor Jesu Academy theology teacher Sister Catherine Frances Brodersen, Saint Louis University undergraduate and doctoral graduate Sister Kelsey Ann Shaver of Rolla and Sister Allison Lorraine Masserano of the Bronx professed first vows. Sister Elizabeth Doyle of St. Louis, Sister Christine Marie Rattini of Troy, Sister Lauren Elizabeth Zak of Florissant and St. Joseph (Imperial) teacher Sister Christina Skelley renewed vows as junior professed sisters. The main celebrant of the liturgy was Father Thomas J. Kelly, Mount Sacred Heart chaplain. Then, on Aug. 4, Sister Kathryn Press, professed perpetual vows during a Eucharistic Liturgy celebrated by Archbishop Leonard P. Blair of Hartford, Conn. Sister Kathryn earned a Masters of Divinity degree from Aquinas Institute of Theology.
Hands-on learning
Students from Cardinal Ritter College Preparatory were among about 250 students from 12 Missouri high schools to kick off the 2018 Constitution Project competition Sept. 5 at the Missouri Capitol Building in Jefferson City. Scheduled speakers included Missouri First Lady Teresa Parson, Missouri Speaker of the House Todd Richardson, Supreme Court of Missouri Judges Mary R. Russell and W. Brent Powell, as well as Don Hentges, a Vietnam War veteran. The students also participated in a mock legislative debate. The project gives students a mock crime scene to investigate, report about and eventually try in a mock trial, all under the mentorship of local professionals in the fields of crime scene investigation, journalism and trial advocacy.
