STL Youth Jobs

The Citi Foundation has granted $297,000 to STL Youth Jobs as a part of an initiative. The funding will provide jobs, financial literacy training and education to young people. STL Youth Jobs, now in its fifth year of providing jobs to 16- to 24-year-olds in the City of St. Louis, engages young adults in meaningful employment to reduce crime, increase academic success and build career skills. The program is assisted by the Incarnate Word Foundation, Ascension Health, the Archdiocese of St. Louis and Mercy, among others. It costs about $2,500 to fund one youth employee’s job. Filmmaker to visit

An evening with filmmaker Michael Joseph McDonald and the L’Arche St. Louis Community will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday May 31, in the Currigan Room at St. Louis University High School, 4970 Oakland Ave. in St. Louis. McDonald will discuss his journey of filming people with intellectual disabilities around the world. He is the author of four books and the recipient of an Academy of American Poets Prize. His short films have aired on television in several countries. McDonald lived alongside people with intellectual disabilities in 19 countries, and he worked as a house assistant in L’Arche France and L’Arche Kenya. He is the filmmaker behind L’Arche’s latest docu-series, “As I Am.” L’Arche St. Louis is an intentional community of people with and without intellectual disabilities. Ignatian spirituality for young professionals

An information session for Contemplative Leaders in Action (CLA), a program grounded in Ignatian spirituality for young professionals, is set for Thursday, June 1. The two-year program focuses on spiritual formation and leadership development for young professionals in their 20s and 30s, helping them to become leaders in their fields and find God in all things. The info session, which starts at 6:30 p.m., is in The Loyola Room at Jesuit Hall on St. Louis University’s campus. Jesuit Hall is at the northwest corner of Grand and Lindell. ACTS retreat at Pallottine

An ACTS day of reflection will take place from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at the Pallottine Renewal Center, 15270 Old Halls Ferry Road in Florissant. The event will celebrate the 30th anniversary of ACTS retreats, the 20th anniversary of the mission from San Antonio and the 15th anniversary of ACTS in St. Louis. The day will include Mass, speakers, music and fellowship.

Criminal justice reform

The social justice councils of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne and St. Elizabeth, Mother of John The Baptist parishes will hold a dialogue on criminal justice reform, the third in their Just Talk/beONE initiative, from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, June 4, at St. Rose Philippine Duchesne Parish Hall, 1210 Paddock Ave. in Florissant. MORE vocations

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet’s vocation team will host a MORE (Ministry, One with God and Neighbor, Reflection and Prayer and Engagement) Weekend June 9-11 at the sisters’ motherhouse in south St. Louis. The weekend is for women interested in religious life to share time in community, prayer and volunteer ministry with the sisters. Urban Wanderers

The St. Louis University Museum of Art will host the sixth installment of Urban Wanderers, a fundraising art exhibition to benefit Stray Rescue of St. Louis, from June 9 until July 23. The exhibition will open with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 9, at the museum, 3633 Lindell Blvd. The reception is free of charge; however, donations are encouraged to heal abused, neglected and abandoned dogs and cats. Family retreat and vacation

The annual Missouri Holy Family Fest — Focus: Splendor of the Truth by St. Pope John Paul — will be held Thursday to Sunday, Aug. 10-13, at Eagle Hurst Ranch near Steelville. Sponsored by the Apostolate For Family Consecration, the fest features daily Masses, Rosaries, Chaplets of Divine Mercy and adoration. Father James Wasser, Missionaries of the Holy Family, will be the camp priest, and Jamie Garza of TNCE Productions (The New Catholic Evangelization) will be there for the youth.
