Employee of the Year
Nevenka Radonic, maintenance/custodian at St. Agnes Apartments in St. Louis, was recently selected as Cardinal Ritter Senior Services (CRSS) Employee of the Year. Sara Varghese, certified medication technician at Mary Queen and Mother Center nursing home in Shrewsbury, was awarded the CRSS Mission Alive Person of the Year Star. In addition, 30 employees were honored for five, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years of service.

SLU series mixes Catholics and politics
Theological Studies professor Julio Rubio will present “Can We Talk? Catholics, Politics and the Search for Common Ground” at St. Louis University’s Friday Mass and Speaker Series on Friday, Jan. 12, at Boileau Hall, noon to 1:30 p.m. The presentation will follow Mass and a light lunch. Good Shepherd affiliates show work
The art work of Good Shepherd Gallery’s artist affiliates will be on display at the gallery through Friday, Jan. 26. Christy and Tony Bodnar, Henry Chaney, Kathy Ann Duffin, Mary Beth Kemper, CPPS, Gary Lang, Maria Liebeck, DC, and Elizabeth Slenker, OP, are participating in the exhibit, “Warmth & Light.” The artists’ reception will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19. The gallery is at 252 S. Florissant Road in Ferguson. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; 2-8 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; and by appointment Tuesday. Racial harmony workshop
Amy Hunter, the manager of diversity and inclusion at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, will present “Creating Racial Harmony: Speaking truths to ourselves and the community” at a workshop on racial harmony Sunday, Feb. 4, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., at the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet Motherhouse. The workshop is scheduled for 9 a.m-2:30 p.m., with Mass to be celebrated by St. Nicholas Parish pastor Father Art Cavitt at 2:30 p.m. The Mass will feature a combined gospel choir of St. Elizabeth, Mother of John the Baptist and St. Nicholas parishes. Morning coffee and tea will be provided, and lunch is available for $10. All are welcome, but seating is limited and reservations are required. Christian Unity
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity will be celebrated Jan. 18-25 with a theme of “Your Right Hand, O Lord, Glorious in Power,” taken from Exodus 15:6. Christians from around the region and various traditions will join in prayer for Christian unity at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, at St. Justin Martyr Church, 11910 Eddie and Park Road in Sunset Hills. Catholic perspective in literature
Local author and actor Kevin O’Brien will present the Daughters of St. Paul’s monthly series, “Christian Elements of Great Literature” at Pauline Books & Media, 9804 Watson Road in Crestwood. The four-month series will be at 7 p.m. on the last Monday of each month through May. O’Brien will explore the following titles from a Christian perspective: Jan. 29 — “Out of the Ashes: Rebuilding American Culture” by Anthony Esolen; Feb. 26 — “You Can Understand the Bible” by Peter Kreeft; April 30 — “The Divine Dante” featuring Kevin O’Brien as Dante lecturing on the “Divine Comedy;” May 21 — “The Catholicism of the Lord of the Rings” by Joseph Pearce. LaSalle dinner and tour
La Salle Retreat Center will host a dinner and a behind-the-scenes tour on Wednesday, Jan. 31, from 6-9. Explore the historical buildings and hear stories from Christian Brothers who attended school at La Salle, which is at 2101 Rue De LaSalle Drive in Glencoe on Highway 109 north of Eureka. Men for Christ
The Catholic Men for Christ Conference will be held Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Touhill Performing Arts Center on the University of Missouri St. Louis campus. The conference will feature speakers Curtis Martin, Scott Sullivan, Michael Cumbie and Father Godwin Olugbami. Confession and Adoration will be available. General admission is $40 and increases to $50 at the door. Young men ages 15-25 can purchase tickets for $15.
