Students around the Archdiocese of St. Louis are back in classrooms for another year of learning about academics and their Catholic faith.

At Valle Catholic School in Ste. Genevieve, second grade teacher Courtney McDaniel read her students the book “First Day Jitters” by Julie Danneberg as they settled in for the new school year.

Jennifer Maune, principal at St. Vincent de Paul School in Dutzow, said the theme for this year at the school is “Let your light shine” in reference to Matthew 5:16.

“We’re going to focus on different ways we can show Jesus to others,” said Maune, who also teaches seventh and eighth grade religion. “We’re preparing them to be intentional disciples. … Our goal is just for our kiddos to recognize those holy moments and to be witnesses of Christ and to show Christ to others.”
