Old Cathedral tour
The Archdiocese of St. Louis will host a tour of the Basilica of St. Louis, King of France (Old Cathedral) at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, as part of its Bicentennial Missionary Series and coinciding with the feast day of St. Louis. Father Nicholas Smith, rector and director of the archdiocesan Office of Sacred Worship, will lead a tour of the Old Cathedral and museum, with the event concluding with Mass at 12:10 p.m. The Old Cathedral is located at 209 Walnut St. in Downtown St. Louis. Catholic Charities Day at the Ballpark
Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of St. Louis will host a Day at the Ballpark on Thursday, Aug. 27, when the St. Louis Cardinals face the Baltimore Orioles at Busch Stadium. Gates open at 11:45 a.m. and first pitch set for 1:15 p.m. Schmidt Equipment & Supply Inc. is the presenting sponsor for the event, which will include a pre-game student parade and ceremonial first pitch by Archbishop Mitchell T. Rozanski at 12:10 p.m., a national anthem performance by the Competition Choir from St. Joseph School in Cottleville, and a young person connected to Catholic Charities announcing the Cardinals’ lineup from the scoreboard control room. Individual tickets are available at Cardinals.com/Archdiocese; up to $5 from each ticket sold will benefit Catholic Charities’ work.
Catholicism and political life
Edward Hogan, academic dean of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary, will speak on “Catholicism and Political Life in the United States of America” on Tuesday, Sept. 8, from 7-9 p.m. in the Fleur de Lis Room at the Cardinal Rigali Center, 20 Archbishop May Drive in Shrewsbury. The talk, hosted by the archdiocesan Respect Life Apostolate and Salt + Light Young Adult Ministry, will address how the Catholic faith informs understanding of the common good amid challenges to unity and human dignity. A presentation on Amendment 3 will follow.
Legion of Mary celebration
The St. Louis Regional Senatus of the Legion of Mary will celebrate the organization’s 105th anniversary on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. at St. Lucy Parish (Our Lady of Sorrows campus), 5020 Rhodes Ave. in St. Louis. The event will open with the Rosary, followed by Mass and a luncheon in Faenger Hall. The celebration will honor founder Servant of God Frank Duff, who established the Catholic lay organization in Dublin, Ireland, in 1921 with a small circle of fellow Catholics who placed themselves humbly at the service of Christ under the loving guidance of His Blessed Mother. The movement has since grown into a worldwide apostolic effort with millions of active and auxiliary members. Wedding Jubilee Mass and retreat
The annual Silver & Gold Wedding Jubilee Mass will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis. The Mass celebrates couples who have been married for 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 or over 50 years — and anything in between! A blessed anniversary certificate and missalette will be available at the vestibule of the cathedral prior to Mass. A Jubilant Marriages Couples Retreat will be held from 11 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at St. Roch Church in St. Louis. The day will include an optional “early bird” Rosary at 11 a.m., and the day will include reflections from married couples and others as well as Mass. Cost is $50 per couple, which includes retreat materials, lunch, snacks and beverages. Couples are encouraged to plan for dinner out on their own. St. Cecilia School reunion
St. Cecilia School and Academy alumni from the classes of 1962 to 1976 are invited to a reunion, “Back to the Good Old Days!” on Saturday, Oct. 17. The evening begins with Mass at St. Cecilia Church at 5 p.m., followed by dinner, drinks and a school tour from 6-8:30 p.m. Admission is a $25 donation per person. Spouses are welcome, and additional gifts will directly support current students. Attendees may reach out to their class representative with questions, and organizers are still seeking representatives for the classes of 1970 and 1972.
