Regina Cleri reports confirmed cases of COVID-19
Residence working with health officials; residents will continue to be closely monitored
Regina Cleri, a residence for retired priests located in Shrewsbury, has confirmed 21 cases of COVID-19, as of April 24. One retired priest, Father Robert Menner, died April 24. Several priests have been hospitalized, one has been discharged and another is scheduled to return to Regina Cleri.
The Archdiocese of St. Louis and leadership at Regina Cleri are working with St. Louis County health officials to ensure the residence is following appropriate protocols.
Regina Cleri continues to adhere to guidelines offered by the Center for Clinical Standards and Quality as well as the Department of Health and Human Services to ensure the health and safety of residents. The residence has taken several measures, including a restriction of all visitors and non-essential personnel, with the exception of health care workers and other specialties such as hospice care; and daily health screenings for all essential employees and residents.
Regina Cleri also has increased availability and accessibility of alcohol-based hand rubs, tissues and facemasks, as well as reinforcement of strong hand-hygiene practices and the use of non-touch receptacles for disposal; increased regular professional cleanings for all areas within the residence; and the use of gloves, masks and all appropriate personal protective equipment by Regina Cleri staff.
Residents will continue to be closely monitored for symptoms, and the community’s leadership and the archdiocese will continue to be in communication with health officials to ensure all guidelines and protocols are followed.
Regina Cleri is home to 30 retired priests and is supported by the Archdiocese of St. Louis, the Annual Catholic Appeal and other donors in the greater St. Louis area.
