Obituary Sr. Marianne Mullen, OSU
Ursuline Sister Marianne Mullen died Nov. 13 at St. Andrew’s at Francis Place in Eureka at age 86.
Born in St. Louis, Sister Marianne, also known as Sister Marie Michelle, was a graduate of Ursuline Academy. She entered the Ursuline Sisters in 1956 and professed her vows in 1958.
Sister Marianne earned a bachelor’s degree in math from the College of New Rochelle in New York, a master’s degree in math from Saint Louis University and a master’s degree in pastoral studies from Loyola University in New Orleans.
An educator for more than 45 years, she began her teaching career in Illinois, first at St. Bernard’s School in Alton from 1962-63 and then at Ursuline Academy in Springfield from 1963-66. She taught at Corpus Christi High School in Jennings from 1966-72 and Ursuline Academy in Kirkwood, from 1972-74. She was principal of three Ursuline schools: O’Connell High School in Galveston, Texas, from 1974-77, Ursuline Academy in San Antonio from 1978-82, and Ursuline Academy in Springfield, Illinois, from 1985-86.
Sister Marianne served in campus ministry in Springfield, Illinois; Hispanic ministry in Portageville, Missouri, and taught adult basic education at Three Rivers College in Malden, Missouri, and at St. Jude Community Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was director of vocations for the Central Province from 1992-97 and held many leadership positions in local Ursuline communities.
Survivors include a brother, Jerry Mullen. A graveside prayer service was held at St. Peter Cemetery in Kirkwood.
