Sr. Duggan

A funeral Mass for Sister Loretta C. Duggan was celebrated Sept. 5 at the Nazareth Living Center Chapel in south St. Louis County. Sister Loretta, 92, died Aug. 31 at Nazareth. Sister Loretta was a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet for 60 years, serving in education and community service.

Born in Green Bay, Wis., she worked in the paper mills after high school graduation. In 1958, at age 32, she entered the Sisters of St. Joseph. She made her final profession in 1966. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Fontbonne College in 1963.

Sister Loretta taught at St. Edward School in St. Louis from 1969-71 and Valle Grade School in Ste. Genevieve from 1981-86. She then did community service at Nazareth Living Center from 1986-97 and hospitality at St. Joseph Provincial House in St. Louis until 2000. She retired to Sacred Heart Convent in Festus and later Holy Family Community in St. Louis and served as a volunteer, including as a nursing home visitor in Festus. She moved to Nazareth in 2008. Sister Loretta also taught in Kansas City, Mo., and in Wisconsin.

Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery.
