Obituary | Sr. Jane Frances Behlmann, CSJ
A prayer service for Sister Jane Frances Behlmann was held Dec. 22 in Holy Family Chapel at the Carondelet Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. Sister Jane, 72, died Dec. 15 at De Greeff Hospice House in south St. Louis County.
Born in St. Charles, she entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1964, was received as Sister Frances Joseph and made final profession in 1971. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary music education from Fontbonne College in 1971 and a master’s degree in library science from Rosary College (now Dominican University) in 1982.
Sister Jane began her 55 years of ministry in education. She first taught music at St. Luke the Evangelist Grade School in St. Louis from 1968-71. Then, for the next five years, she taught music at multiple schools throughout the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
For 28 years beginning in 1976, Sister Jane served as the audiovisual librarian at Fontbonne University.
In 2004, she began serving her CSJ community as archivist for the St. Louis province. This past summer, she took on the additional task of consolidating the Albany, Los Angeles/Hawaii and St. Louis provinces’ and the Congregational Office’s archives of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in one place and became director of the newly formed Carondelet Consolidated Archive on the St. Louis province campus.
Survivors include four sisters, Carol Pohlmann of Florissant, Judy Steinmeyer of Liberty, Mo., Lou Ann Randall of St. Peters and Debbie Morrow of Springfield, Mo.; and two brothers, Joseph Behlmann of Wentzville and Gregory Behlmann of Springfield.
