Obituary | Sr. Dorothea Moll, DC

A funeral Mass for Sister Dorothea Moll, DC, was celebrated May 29 at The Sarah Community’s Marian Chapel in Bridgeton. Sister Dorothea died May 23. She celebrated 53 years as a Daughter of Charity in September 2017.

Born in St. Louis, she was one of five children born to Theodore D. and Agnes (Ballmann) Moll. She was a 1961 graduate of St. Francis De Sales High School in St. Louis and entered the Community of Daughters of Charity in September 1964.

Sister Dorothea earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 1969. She earned a master of social work degree from Saint Louis University in 1995.

After completing her initial formation, Sister Dorothea was missioned to St. Ann School in Dallas (1966-67). Following two years as a student, she served at DePaul Hospital on North Kingshighway, in the business office (1969-70) and as the assistant controller (1970-74).

Sister Dorothea served in fiscal affairs at Seton Hospital in Austin, Texas (1974-75) and as the controller’s assistant at Seton Medical Center in Austin (1975-77). She was missioned to Hotel Dieu Medical Center in El Paso, Texas, to serve as part of a special project team, (January-May, 1977). She then was appointed accountant at Marillac Center in Kansas City, Mo., (1977-81). She continued as an accountant at Providence Hospital in Waco, Texas (1981-83), in development and public relations at Seton Center in Kansas City, (1983-86), assistant director of the clinic at St. Phillip Health Center and Clinic in San Antonio (1986-87), and chief financial officer for the Daughters of Charity Services of San Antonio, (1987-89).

Later missioned to St. Louis, Sister Dorothea ministered at Guardian Angel Settlement Association, (1989-90). She then pursued her master’s in social work while serving at St. Patrick Center in St. Louis, (1992-95). During her years at St. Patrick Center, she coordinated the center’s mobile outreach. Once her degree was complete, she was appointed manager of mobile outreach for St. Patrick Center (1995-96).

She next served as assistant administrator of the Rosati Stabilization Center in St. Louis, (1996-97) and treatment services director at Marian Hall Residential Care in St. Louis, (1997-2000). After time for personal growth, Sister Dorothea went to Austin to serve as a social worker for children and adolescents at Shoal Creek Hospital/Seton Healthcare, (2002-10). She served in social ministry at the Daughters of Charity Services of Arkansas in Dumas and Gould (2010-17).

In 2017, Sister Dorothea entered a ministry of prayer at her residence in Gould, then at Seton Residence in Evansville, Ind., and finally at The Sarah Community in Bridgeton, where she served until the time of her death.

Sister Dorothea is survived by a brother, John Moll, of Columbia, Ill.; and a sister, Mary Anne Keller of Fenton. Burial was in Marillac Cemetery in Normandy.
