Obituary | Sr. Consuela Chase, SCC
A funeral Mass for Sister Consuela Chase was celebrated Feb. 27 at Sacred Heart Convent in Wilmette, Illinois. Sister M. Consuela, 98, died Feb 23 at the convent.
Born Virginia Chase in Detroit, she entered the Sisters of Christian Charity in 1934. She was given the name Sister M. Consuela in 1937 and made her first vows in 1939.
She taught at Resurrection School in St. Louis from 1939-1942, helped out at what was then St. Vincent Orphan Home in Normandy for a year, 1955-56, and then was sent to teach at St. Boniface School in St. Louis until 1965. After three years teaching in Chicago, Sister M. Consuela returned to St. Boniface School, teaching there until 1974.
Sister M. Consuela moved to Wilmette to teach in the English as a Second Language (ESL) program at Mallinckrodt College. In 1978, she became the director of the program. In 1999, Sister M. Consuela moved to Josephinum Convent in Chicago, where she taught in the SCC Literacy Program. Two years later she began a ministry of office clerk at a middle school.
In 2013, Sister M. Consuela moved to Sacred Heart Convent in Wilmette, where she corresponded with benefactors.
Burial was in Maria Immaculata Cemetery.
