Sr. Neubauer

A funeral Mass for Sister Camille Neubauer was celebrated Aug. 20 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind. Sister Camille, 79, died Aug. 14 in Mother Theodore Hall in St. Mary-of-the-Woods.

Of her 58 years as a Sister of Providence, she ministered as teacher for 14 years in schools in Missouri, Maryland and Illinois.

Born in Washington, D.C., she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Providence in 1961 and professed final vows in 1969. She earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College and a master’s degree in organ from Washington University in St. Louis.

Sister Camille taught music at Annunziata School in Ladue from 1966-68 and Our Lady of Providence in Crestwood from 1968-69. After receiving her assignment at Annunziata, she quickly learned to play several instruments because, trained in piano and organ, she was to teach students in guitar, baritone ukulele, violin and recorder in addition to piano.

In 1980, she moved into parish ministry, serving as music director for parishes in Maryland and Virginia. She also served as provincial councilor for St. Michael Province 1984-88. In 2002, she came to the motherhouse to serve as directory of liturgy and music. She retired from that ministry in 2009 to serve as volunteer receptionist at Woods Day Care until its closing as well as at Providence Conference and Spirituality Center. She continued that ministry until just a few weeks before her death.

Burial was in the cemetery of the Sisters of Providence in Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.
