Sr. Whatley

A funeral Mass for Sister Alicia Whatley, who served in the 1960s and ’70s in St. Louis, was celebrated May 28 at the Seton Residence Chapel in Evansville, Ind.

Sister Alicia, age 82 and a professed Daughter of Charity for 53 years, died May 25 at Seton Residence in Evansville.

Born in Mobile, Ala., Sister Alicia was a 1954 graduate of Bishop Toolen High School in Mobile and worked for Catholic Charities in Mobile until she entered the Daughters of Charity in St. Louis in 1964.

Following initial formation, Sister Alicia served as secretary for the Daughters of Charity Support Services at Marillac Provincial House in St. Louis from 1966-71. She also served as secretary at St. Patrick Day Care Center from 1971-73 and St. Vincent Hospital from 1973-77, both in St. Louis. Sister Alicia received certification as a medical transcriptionist in 1982 and certification as a registered health information technician in 1984.

Sister Alicia served as a medical records transcriptionist at hospitals in New Orleans, Dallas and Austin, Texas. In 2010 she moved to The Sarah Community in Bridgeton, where she lived until 2013 when she moved to Seton Residence.

Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery in Evansville.
