Obituary | Sister Ursula Cazalé, DC
A funeral Mass for Sister Ursula Cazalé was celebrated Aug. 9 at The Sarah Community’s Marian Chapel in Bridgeton. Sister Ursula died Aug. 5 at The Sarah Community. A retired nurse, she was 93 years old and a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul for 72 years.
Born in New Orleans, Sister Ursula was from a family of seven children, with four of the six girls pursuing life as women religious. In 1957, Sister Ursula entered the Daughters of Charity in St. Louis. In 1950, she received a nursing diploma from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Chicago. In 1951, she earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing education from DePaul University in Chicago, and in 1962 she earned a master’s degree in nursing service administration from St. John’s University in Jamaica, N.Y.
Sister Ursula served as a nursing supervisor at hospitals in Chicago and Lafayette, La., as a nursing supervisor and director of nursing at a hospital in Mobile, Ala., and as director of nursing at hospitals in Waco, Texas, and Montgomery, Ala. Sister Ursula also was a staff nurse in New Orleans and a volunteer at hospitals in Dallas and Waco.
In St. Louis, Sister Ursula served as infirmary staff nurse at the Marillac Provincial House from 1982-87. In 2012, she retired to The Sarah Community.
Burial was in Marillac Cemetery in Normandy.
