OBITUARY | Sister Margaret Ann Moser, OSU
A funeral Mass for Sister Margaret Ann Moser, OSU, was celebrated Dec. 4 at St. Rita Church in Dallas. Sister Margaret Ann, also known as Sister John Marie, died Nov. 16 in Dallas after a brief stay in hospice at the age of 80. She served in the Archdiocese of St. Louis in the 1970s.
Born in Dallas, she graduated from Ursuline Academy of Dallas in 1956 and shortly thereafter joined the Ursuline Sisters. She professed vows in 1959.
Sister Margaret Ann earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the College of New Rochelle in New Rochelle, N.Y., and her master’s degree in theology from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio.
Her career included teaching and administrative positions at Ursuline schools in Galveston, Texas, Springfield, Ill., St. Louis and New Orleans, La. She taught at St. Peter School in Kirkwood from 1973-74 and was principal from 1974-77. After 31 years in these ministries, she returned to Ursuline Academy of Dallas, where she served as president from 1989-2012.
Sister Margaret Ann received the Catholic Foundation Award in 2012 in recognition of her commitment to Catholic education and the Dallas community. She also served on the boards of Ursuline Academy of New Orleans, Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart in Houston, Alcuin Montessori School in Dallas, the Catholic Housing Initiative and the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity.
She is survived by her mother, Margaret Murrin Moser, and eight siblings: Sister Mary Theresa Moser, RSCJ, and August (Bud), Paul, Ernest, Michael, James, Kathleen and Carol Moser.
