OBITUARY | Sister Eleanor Pozzo, ASCJ

A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Eleanor Pozzo, ASCJ, was celebrated on April 16 at Sacred Heart Manor Chapel in Hamden, Connecticut. Sister Eleanor died peacefully on April 7 at Sacred Heart Manor. She was 92 years old and professed as an Apostle of the Sacred Heart of Jesus for 70 years.
Sister Eleanor, daughter of the late Camillo and Virginia (Ferrario) Pozzo, was born on March 25, 1933, in St. Louis. She entered the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on Aug. 30, 1952, in Hamden. She professed first vows on Aug. 24, 1955, and perpetual vows on Aug. 24, 1959, also in Hamden.
Sister Eleanor (previously known as Sister Mary Camillus) began her apostolic ministry at St. Donato Parish in Hamden in 1954. She was certified as an LPN at St. Vincent Hospital in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1958, and her service to Church and to her community included health care, pastoral ministry, formation accompaniment and education. She served as a group mother at Clelian Heights in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and as caretaker of Sacred Heart on the Lake in Higganum, Connecticut. She lovingly served at Sacred Heart Villa in St. Louis for a total of 17 years. Sister Eleanor retired to Sacred Heart Manor in 2019 where she faithfully fulfilled her mission as an Apostle Adorer.
Sister Eleanor was predeceased by her beloved siblings, Lena (Carolli), Louise (Berra), Emil, John, Connie (Williams) and Mario (Mike) Pozzo.
Burial was in All Saints Cemetery in North Haven, Connecticut.
