OBITUARY | Sister Doris “Dodie” Landers, OSU

A memorial Mass for Sister Doris “Dodie” Landers, OSU, was celebrated on Feb. 7 in the chapel at Ursuline Academy in Kirkwood. Sister Dodie died on Feb. 1 at St. Andrews at Francis Place in Eureka. She was 93.
The daughter of Harry Landers and Helen McManus Landers, she was born on Nov. 13, 1932, in Auburn, Illinois. She wanted to be an Ursuline Sister from the time she knew them through Parish School of Religion classes in her parish church, but after graduating from Auburn High School, she went to work at Marine Bank in Springfield, Illinois, while caring for her mother, which was of primary importance to her.
After her mother died, Sister Dodie entered the Ursuline community on June 27, 1987, and professed her vows on Jan. 14, 1990. From 1990-2016, she used her financial background by serving Ursuline communities in New Orleans; Laredo, Texas; and Alton and Springfield, Illinois, as an assistant treasurer, treasurer and councilor. Upon retirement, she lived in Alton until moving to Francis Place in Eureka in 2021.
In addition to her parents, Sister Dodie was preceded in death by her twin sister, Delores Landers, and brothers, Joseph, John and Robert Landers. She is survived by her nephew and his wife, Ed and Sam Landers.
Burial was at St. Peter Cemetery in Kirkwood.
