Obituary | Father Terry Borgerding
The memorial Mass for Father Terry Borgerding was celebrated Aug. 22 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Washington. Father Borgerding, 67, died Aug. 16.
A graduate of St. John Vianney High School, Cardinal Glennon College and Kenrick Seminary, Father Borgerding was ordained in 1977 by Cardinal John J. Carberry at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis.
Following ordination, he served as an associate pastor at Our Lady Parish in Festus, St. John the Baptist Parish in St. Louis, Epiphany Parish in St. Louis, St. Patrick Parish in University City, St. Anthony Parish in High Ridge and Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Florissant. Father Borgerding was named pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Apple Creek in 1996 and the next year added interim duties as pastor at St. Maurus Parish in Biehle.
He was named senior associate pastor at Assumption Parish in south St. Louis County in 1998. Five years later, Father Borgerding was appointed pastor of St. Martin of Tours Parish in south St. Louis County. In 2005, he was named senior associate pastor of Holy Spirit Parish in Maryland Heights and in 2008 as senior associate pastor of St. Cletus Parish in St. Charles. In 2012, he was named associate pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Florissant.
In 2014, Father Borgerding was appointed pastor of St. Ignatius Parish in Concord Hill. He resigned as pastor in March due to health reasons.
Father Borgerding was a regular with the Catholic Youth Apostolate’s Father William Scheid Players, a theatre group that features several priests from the archdiocese along with laypeople.
Survivors include his father, Joseph Borgerding of Dutzow; a brother, Bob Borgerding of Wright City; and a sister, Pam Rodriguez of Dutzow. Burial was in St. Vincent Cemetery in Marthasville.
