Her four older sisters entered in Emmitsburg, but she was asked to enter the St. Louis Province. She credits her parents for her faith and devotion to Blessed Mother. She is very close to her family who live in Cumberland, especially her one remaining sibling, Loretta “Boo” Lippold. Her favorite pastime has been to write spiritual poems and then read and pray with them. Her favorite expression is “we truly have the hundredfold.” By her life of gratitude, Sister Mary John has truly witnessed to her name, Daughter of Charity.
