About Father Bockskopf: He hosted a visit by President George H.W. Bush in 1992 at St. Francis de Sales Church. Father Bockskopf was involved as co-director of the SEARCH retreat program in the archdiocese from 1972-1980. He and Father Tom Santen were the first to brings ACTS retreats to the Archdiocese of St. Louis. In retirement, he remains active in faith-formation programs for adults, parish leadership and serves on the priests’ advisory board for the Lay Formation Program.

About Archbishop Carlson: When he arrived in St. Louis, Archbishop Carlson said he looked forward to loving the people of St. Louis. “You come to love people by getting to know them,” he said. “And what I have discovered is that the people of faith of St. Louis have very deep roots of faith … I have been very blessed to have a wonderful working relationship with the priests and deacons and the strong presence of men and women religious — and the enormous number of laypeople who also have been very supportive.” He is enjoying his retirement in Florida.

About Father Ryan: He was involved in education over the years, teaching at St. Dominic High School, Saint Louis University, Aquinas Institute, Paul VI Institute and Brescia University. “The main theme I’ve always used to guide me is, ‘connecting faith and life.’ I’ve really appreciated the opportunities the archdiocese gave me in education.” He was head of adult education for the archdiocese, and helped launch the DeSales Program, coordinating the program in parishes, eventually helping the program spread to other parts of the country. He started a field education program at Kenrick Seminary, which helped seminarians to develop their pastoral experiences.
