OBITUARY | Deacon Albert Williams
A funeral Mass for Deacon Albert Williams was celebrated Nov. 22 at St. Joseph Church in Clayton. Deacon Williams died on Nov. 17 at the age of 89.
Deacon Williams was married to the late Mickey Williams, and the father of Margaret Lane (Daniel), Timothy Williams (Natalie), John Williams (Amy), Judith Fraser (Shawn), Anne Pennell (Ronnell), Constance O’Connell (Jim) and Christine Gipson (Derek). He was blessed with 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Deacon Williams was ordained on June 7, 1997, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis by then-Archbishop Justin F. Rigali. Following ordination, he was assigned to St. Joseph Parish in Clayton until his retirement on July 16, 2016.
As a deacon, he served in his parish by presiding at baptisms, funeral services, weddings and making Communion calls to the homebound. In addition, he was involved in and spoke at many parishes throughout the country in support of Food for the Poor. He made numerous missionary trips to Haiti, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Jamaica and Belize. Through this mission work, he helped bring clean water, food, housing, education, medical care and economic opportunity to those impacted by poverty and disaster.
Deacon Williams was a veteran, having served in the United States Air Force.
Burial was in Calvery Cemetery.
